Patient Info
This is a 44 year old woman who had a history of 2 prior rhinoplasties and open reduction of a nasal fracture. During her last surgery 10 years ago, a Goretex synthetic implant was placed in her nose by her prior surgeon to replace missing tissue. Unfortunately, after 8 years of having no problems, the Goretex extruded through her skin causing a draining, inflamed chronic wound. This led to a foreign body reaction, severe rash, loss of smell, pain, and nasal deformity. The patient sought consultation with Dr. Anurag Agarwal, a revision rhinoplasty specialist in Florida. She is shown before and 7 months after Dr. Agarwal performed a single stage revision rhinoplasty to remove the implant, use a muscle flap to reconstruct the nasal bridge, and close the wound on her right nasal sidewall. She is thrilled not only with the shape of her nose, but with the resolution of pain and drainage, and with her ability to smell again.
